AMBIENT LIGHT PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

Ambient light (or natural light) portrait photography is by far the most popular genre of photography for it requires no special lighting equipment or setups. All the photographer needs is natural light, and a portrait subject. Ambient (or natural light) light portraits can be done inside or outside.

At ProPhoto Academy we offer three levels of Ambient Light Portrait Photography workshops: Introduction APW101, Intermediate APW201 and Advanced APW301.

Beginner Ambient Portrait Photography workshop (APW 101) is an introduction course designed to provide a novice photography student with essential knowledge and skills of portrait photography. In this course students will learn and practice:

  • Ambient light schemes
  • Essential principles of portrait photography
  • Portrait photography lenses
  • Camera functions
  • Shooting a portrait

For this workshop you will need a DSLR camera, storage card and a portrait lens (zoom or prime that coverage the 50mm range such as 18-200 mm, 24-70 mm, 50 mm or 85 mm)

Duration: 4 hours. Fee – $75. Group size – 9 students.

Intermediate Ambient Portrait Photography workshop (APW201) is designed for students who already have some knowledge of ambient portrait photography, including basic light schemes, basic principles of photography and are familiar with camera functions and lenses. Without having to spend time to discuss basics, intermediate level students will be concentrating more on creative aspect of portrait photography. In this workshop students will learn and practice:

  • Creative portrait light schemes
  • Portrait Composition principles
  • Shooting creative portraits

For this workshop you will need a DSLR camera, storage card and a portrait lens (zoom or prime that coverage the 50mm range such as 18-200 mm, 24-70 mm, 50 mm or 85 mm) and solid basic knowledge of portrait photography principles.

Duration: 4 hours. Fee – $75. Group size – 9 students.

Advanced Ambient Portrait Photography workshop (APW301) is designed for students who posses a solid knowledge of portrait photography principles and are familiar with various ambient lighting schemes and portrait composition rules. This workshops is for students who have shot portraits before and have some experience working with a model. In this workshop students will concentrate on the most challenging aspect of portrait photography – establishing contact with a model will learn and practice:

  • Creative portrait poses
  • Working with a model
  • Shooting creative portraits for their portrait portfolio

For this workshop you will need a DSLR camera, storage card and a portrait lens (zoom or prime that coverage the 50mm range such as 18-200 mm, 24-70 mm, 50 mm or 85 mm) and solid basic knowledge of portrait photography principles.

Duration: 4 hours. Fee – $75. Group size – 9 students.

STUDIO PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

Studio lighting is an essential skill for any serious portrait photographer, as it allows to shoot creative portraits when ambient or natural light is not available.  Studio lighting setups are widely used in business portraits and in commercial photography.

At ProPhoto Academy we offer three levels of  Studio Portrait Photography workshops: Introduction SPW101, Intermediate SPW201 and Advanced SPW301.

Beginner Studio Portrait Photography workshop (SPW101) is an introduction course designed to provide a novice photography student with essential knowledge and skills of studio portrait photography.  This course is intended for photography students that are familiar with basic principles of photography and camera fuctions. In this course students will learn and practice:

  • Studio Impulse  (Flash) Lighting Equipment
  • Assembling and using the most commonly used studio light diffusers 
  • Simple studio light schemas – one source of light, reflector
  • Wireless flash triggers
  • Shooting a portrait in a studio setting

For this workshop you will need a DSLR camera with a hot shoe (external on camera flash connection), storage card and a portrait lens (zoom or prime that coverage the 50mm range such as 18-200 mm, 24-70 mm, 50 mm or 85 mm)

Duration: 4 hours. Fee – $100. Group size – 7 students.

Intermediate  Studio Portrait Photography workshop (SPW201) is designed to introduce photography students to more complex studio lighting schemes, equipment and techniques. This course is intended for photography students that are familiar with basic principles of photography, camera functions and have are familiar with studio lighting equipment and simple lighting setups. In this course students will learn and practice:

  • Various multiple light sources schemes
  • Various light diffusers
  • Distance vs Shadow relationship
  • Shooting a portrait in a studio setting with multiple light sources

For this workshop you will need a DSLR camera with a hot shoe (external on camera flash connection), storage card and a portrait lens (zoom or prime that coverage the 50mm range such as 18-200 mm, 24-70 mm, 50 mm or 85 mm)

Duration: 4 hours. Fee – $100. Group size – 7 students.

Advanced Studio Portrait Photography workshop (SPW301) is designed for advanced photographers who want to perfect their skills in studio photography and learn complex multiple light sources. This course is intended for photography students that have experience shooting in studio and have good knowledge of studio equipment, or students who attended our Intermediate Studio Portrait Photography workshop  SPW201. In this course students will learn and practice:

  • Multiple light sources schemes
  • Low key and High key light scemes
  • Advanced studio diffusers including parabolic beauty dish
  • Shooting a portrait in a studio setting

For this workshop you will need a DSLR camera with a hot shoe (external on camera flash connection), storage card and a portrait lens (zoom or prime that coverage the 50mm range such as 18-200 mm, 24-70 mm, 50 mm or 85 mm)

Duration: 4 hours. Fee – $100. Group size – 7 students.
